Style Appreciation: Sydney Vernon
Sydney Vernon attends Bowie State University. She’s an English major with a concentration in Language and Literature and a minor in Fine Art. When asked to describe her style Sydney responds “I’d describe my style as contemporary classic meets afrocentric. I love patterns and color, but on simple shapes.”
Name 3 of your favorite fashion/style icons.
“One of my icons at the moment is Solange, she styles herself so well and I love the tonal pieces she pairs together. Jean Michel Basquiat is another. He knew how to dress up, but stayed relaxed and chill. I like to have fun when I get dressed in the morning and he reminds me not to force anything. My last is a woman on Instagram @asosfreddie. She’s a style consultant for ASOS and has the most fun pieces but also rocks the classics like suspenders and chelsea boots paired with a fur jacket.”
What inspires your sense of style?
“My style is inspired by the seasons mostly. Trends come and go and I pick up on them occasionally, but how I dress is reflective of the weather. If its sunny I’ll wear bright colors. If it’s gloomy I’ll dress gloomy.”
Where do you see yourself in the fashion world in the next 5-10 years?
“If I become apart of the fashion world I’ll probably use my english background to write for a fashion magazine and work to becoming an editor or something like that. Combine my passions for writing and style in a way that could influence others.”
