Professional Freelance Dancer

Brooklyn, NY

Nikosa Majid has been trained at Ballet Tech and The Ailey School (both located in New York, NY) in ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, contemporary, street jazz, and hip-hop. She is inspired by dancers such as, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Judine Somerville, and Misty Copeland. “The beauty of inspiration is that I can take it from anywhere. Dance inspires me most in the studio. No matter what style/level of dance you’re taking, you always start with the basics. That is a moment of serenity, a reminder of where it all started and the drive to be better than yourself,” says Nikosa.

How long have you been dancing and why do you do it?

"I’ve been dancing since 8 years old and it has been my fulfilment. I wasn’t allowed to quit things when I was growing up but dance was the one thing I never thought about quitting. I can’t live my life without dancing because it feeds me physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually."

What’s the best piece of advice you've been given?

"Finish what you start. It’s not always going to feel good… in between is an opportunity for growth."

What are your favorite styles of dance?

"Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, and Street Jazz"

What vision(s) do you have for your work?

"My vision in dance is to perform internationally with a dance company, to dance on Broadway, to open my own dance school and to use my vision through Christ."
